Summary The article analyzes main aspects of the tank construction industry in the Urals in the 1940s. Main accent is made on building up armored vehicles construction capacity on the eve of the Great Patriotic War. The article describes major actions facilitating growth in tanks output under the conditions of war. The author has studied the controversial processes of the tank construction industry modernization at the Urals plants which consisted of a difficult transition from extensive production methods to intensification of work by means of active introduction of technological innovations. The article also gives a review of the postwar development of the Ural tank construction industry. It characterizes the conversion processes and their influence on the industry development dynamics. The author made a conclusion about the factors contributing to the growth of tank construction during the war period (relocation of equipment, personnel issues, and introduction of new technologies). The article also outlines the crisis phenomena in the development of tank construction industry of the postwar period and describes their causes and the correction actions.
