Summary The article presents a review of the main topics and results of the 11th Congress of Anthropologists and Ethnologists of Russia which took place on 2–5 July 2015 in Ekaterinburg. The organizers of this research forum, which was for the first time in its history held in the territory of the Ural Federal District, were the Association of Anthropologists and Ethnologists of Russia, the N. N. Mikloukho-Macklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology RAS, the Institute of History and Archaeology, Ural Branch of the RAS, and the Ural Federal University. Within the context of the main topic of the Congress — “Contacts and Cultural Interaction” — the most interesting discussions took place in the panels focusing on problems of identity, migration and gender issues. In light of the modern challengers anthropology and ethnology face new problems to address which it is necessary to facilitate their active integration, self-determination and expansion of their respective research toolkits. A strong evidence of this was also a high representation of researchers from related disciplines at the Congress.
