Summary The article deals with the study of ethno-cultural heritage of the Nagaibaks via their recent travel to the memorial places of their ancestors who participated in the Patriotic War of 1812. The Nagaibaks live in villages with the names Paris, Fère-Champenoise, Arcy, Kassel. These names were given to the Nagaibak villages for their military contribution to the victory over Napoleon: these were the cities passed by the victorious Russian army on the way to Paris. In 2012 honoring the 200th anniversary of the Russian victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 the Nagaibaks decided to follow the “roads of the ancestors” and visit the European cities which gave names to their villages. This voyage of the Nagaibaks in a way resembled a pilgrimage, since they visited places of military glory of their remote Cossack ancestors. This trip gave additional stimulus for strengthening of the ethnic identity of the Nagaibaks, for whom participation of their ancestors in the war with Napoleon was one of the significant factors of identity and ethno-cultural heritage. The story of the Nagaibaks' voyage was captured in an anthropological film “From Paris to Paris” which attracted a lot of interest in the Nagaibak culture both in Russia and abroad.
