| Summary | The subject of the article is a study of the Russian nationals of French origin participation in professional life of the Perm province. Statistical data showed that the number of specialists of French origin in various professional communities was relatively small: there were a lot more professionals of the German and the Austro-Hungarian origin. The author mentioned that the French professionals community consisted mostly of the assimilated Frenchmen and the French nationals who worked in the Russian Empire under contract. However this relatively small group of technical specialists managed to make a significant contribution to the development of metallurgical industry; some French specialists even actively participated in new technologies implementation and upgrading of the facilities, thus becoming efficient actors in the regional modernization programs. In addition the article drew attention to the role of the Frenchmen in improving the system of education, primarily the French language teaching. Other areas of the French diaspora involvement including small business and services sectors were also identified. The article provides a lot of biographical data about some of the assimilated Frenchmen and the French nationals who worked in the Urals in the second half of the 19th — early 20th centuries. Despite the small size of the community they played a noticeable role in the strengthening of the Russian-French economic and cultural relations. | ||
