Summary | The article deals with the study of certain aspects of religious life of the Komi-Permyaks and the definition of the meaning of the institute of Church in the life of the people during the 1920–1980‑s. The study was based on archive sources and field ethnographic research. Main methods of the analysis were the comparative historical analysis and ethnographic description. The article studied the influence of political transformations on the religious life of the Komi-Permyaks, identified the religious routes and motivations underlying their church attendance patterns. The study gave evidence in favor of the fact that during the whole period under study the Komi-Permyaks retained a stable interest in religion and the need in certain religious rituals, particularly the ones related to practical or sacral functions. At the same time, there were qualitative changes in the ideological and ritual spheres of life of the people resulting from the territorial specifics and political processes that prevented mass church attendance. The article would be of use to all those who are interested in the religious life of the people during the Soviet period and the studies of the nature of folk beliefs. | ||
