| Summary | This article analyzes the impact of the evacuation during the Great Patriotic War on the trajectories of urban development in the Middle Urals, with an emphasis on the post-war period. The analysis focuses on settlements in the Sverdlovsk Region that received city status before the early 1960s. Factors influencing the trajectories of the city’s industrial adaptation to new conditions are identified. The economic aspects of urbanization in recipient cities are examined, including changes in industrial specialization and development patterns associated with the placement of evacuated enterprises. Models of industrial urban development in connection with the evacuation are identified. It is shown that the evacuation stimulated the redistribution of production capacity and labor resources, which accelerated the industrial growth of several centers and influenced agglomeration processes. The 1958–1959 city passports of the Sverdlovsk Region are used to assess the long-term consequences of the military reorganization of production. The cities are grouped according to the significance of these impacts. It is concluded that most cities (24 out of 40) gained a more developed industrial base as a result of the war, while in 11 other cities, enterprises established during the war contributed to the diversification of the local economy. The most successful development trajectories were observed in large cities, as well as in centers of metallurgy and mechanical engineering. It is shown that the prospects for successful post-war development of a city were not directly related to the level of diversification of the local economy. | ||
