| Summary | This article considers the 1889 model of the Podvintsev brothers’ tumbler mill at the Kochkar gold mines in the Urals as an industrial heritage object. The 1:10 scale model reproduces the original mechanism, which has not survived. The Podvintsevs’ tumbler mill, a fundamentally new design that emerged as a result of abandoning Western-style crushing apparatus, was recognized in the Russian gold industry as a basic facility for technical development during the transition from placer gold mining to primary deposit development. The model itself is studied as part of an interdisciplinary study. The boiler furnace contains soot, chemical analysis of which allowed the determination of the type of combustible material — coniferous wood. Measurements of the drive mechanisms and calculations are used to determine the power of the model’s steam engine. | ||
