Summary The articles shows that the strategy of “Novy Mir” magazine during its “classic” period (1958–1970) was determined by the ideological position of the board and its editor-in chief. Such categories as “the good”, “justice”, as well as commitment to truth, unconditional supremacy of “fact” over “legend” formed the basis for assessment of artistic merits of any text, including the publications on the history of the Soviet era.
