Summary	The article shows the importance of the Ural region in the creation of the military industrial sector of the Soviet Union. It describes the types of small arms, artillery mounts, tanks, nuclear weapons and delivery vehicles made in various periods at the Ural's defense industry companies; the description lists their performance data, quantities produced, and gives examples of their use in the military conflicts of the 20th century. The author studied the work of design bureaus of the Ural's defense companies on the development of new types of arms, spoke about the role of the outstanding inventors of weapons and defense industry administrators. The author draws a conclusion that building of a strong military industrial sector in the USSR contributed to the improvement of science and technological basis of the nation, enhanced its position in the international arena, and added to the ideological consolidation of the people.
