TANK CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY OF UKRAINE IN 1927–1945: ORGANIZATIONAL AND PRODUCTION PROCESS ASPECTS

Summary	The article focuses on the period of emergence and growth of the tank construction industry in Ukraine. The author studied the process of evolution of the tank construction industry both from the organizational, and the technological and production aspects. The role of design bureaus and production staff of all levels in the design and organization of mass production of tanks in the prewar period and during the Great Patriotic War years is demonstrated. The author noted in particular the contribution of the staff of the Institute of Electric Welding of the Ukrainian SSR Academy of Science in upgrading of technology in order to improve quality and facilitate mass production of armored force vehicles in the Soviet Union. The author comes to a conclusion that thanks to the continuous improvement of design and the dedication of the people the USSR managed to create tanks which surpassed their western counterparts in most performance characteristics.
