Summary	The article deals with the dynamics of cultural tradition of the Arctic peoples of Russia under the conditions of new economic and military-strategic development projects. Particular attention is paid to the Yamal Nenets who demonstrate an example of successful combination of adaptivity and resistance in the changing social-economic and political environment. The paper studies the examples of innovations in the traditional life of these people. The role of traditional economic patterns as the traditions preservation factor is discussed. The ethnically oriented innovative projects of the YaNAO following the general government policy — preservation of culture, way of life of the indigenous peoples of the North and their adaptation to modern conditions — are analyzed. It is noted that the aboriginal cultures today acquired a new function serving as the regional brands. The author also mentions the culture oriented modernization and multi-variant self-development strategies. A conclusion is made about the need to use different approaches to various social groups of the aboriginal population and about the importance of individual adaptation strategies.
