Summary | The article sums up the results of the field ethnographic research project (1992–2013) focusing on the specifics of inter-confessional communications between the Old Believers of the Chasovenny Accord in the Perm Kama region as well as other Old Believers Accords and the representatives of the official Russian Orthodox Church. The doctrinal theology of inter-confessional dialog, as well as the real-life communication patterns in local communities were studied based on numerous real-life examples. The inter-confessional contacts strategy of the Chasovenny Accord Old Believers was based, on the one hand, on building confessional boundaries, restriction of any contacts with other confessional communities in order to protect the “purity” of their faith. On the other hand, their settlement pattern, economic and other trivial contacts required establishing some forms of inter-confessional communication, looking for compromises in everyday life. A combination of these two factors modeled the pattern of inter-confessional contacts for the Chasovenny Accord Old Believers, and these patterns in their turn regulated the intensity of such contacts as well as the consequences of inter-confessional communication in the local communities. It may be stated that the Chasovenny Accord Old Believers developed their own, unique culture of inter-confessional communication. | ||
