Topic MAN OF ARCTIC
Summary The article addresses the problem of origin of the comb type ornamented ceramics tradition in the early Neolithic of the forest regions of the Trans-Ural and Western Siberia. Groups of ceramics items decorated with impressed, stepping and dragged comb formed independent complexes (Yet-to type) and were present within the multi-component complexes in combination with the drawn-pinprick style pottery (Amnya, Koshkino, Koksharovsko-Yurjinskaya, etc). The studied materials belonged to the early period of the Neolithic (early Neolithic-1) of the end of the 7th — first quarter / first triens of the 6th millennium BC according to calibrated scale. Typologically the comb type ceramics had a lot in common with other types of pottery, however it also had its own specifics. Thus it may be taken as an evidence confirming a 1980s hypothesis about contemporaneous evolution of the comb type and the drawn-pinprick ornamental traditions in the Trans Ural. An issue of the origin of this cultural component in the early Neolithic of the region still remains open. Neither synchronous nor earlier comb style ceramics complexes in the surrounding territories produced complete similarities, or helped clarifying the problem ofits genesis.
