Summary | The article presents a review of stratigraphic section and planigraphic details of the settlement, as well as the classification of stone tools collection acquired over the four years of the research (2010–2013) of Gorny Samotnjol-1 settlement located at the borderline between the Priuralsky and the Yamal Districts of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. This was the first attempt of an in-depth study of the planigraphy, stratigraphy and the stone tools inventory of the researched part of the settlement. The subject of the study was a selection of stone items used by the ancient population as work tools. The applied methodology made possible compilation of a typological diagram of the tool complex, which may serve as an important source of information for the description of similar complexes. The outcome of the study was a classification scheme embracing the whole tool complex used by the ancient population of Gorny Samotnjol-1 settlement, as well as identification of a range of issues requiring further clarification. The materials of the site are particularly important in view of the insufficient previous research coverage of the high latitude Eneolithic, they serve to enhance and complement the range of other available sources. Comprehensive study of the settlement provides new information about the specifics of house building practices and the adaptation techniques of the ancient population to the conditions of the Arctic. | ||
