Summary The subject of the article is the study of a hearth as the pyro-technological and cultural phenomenon. The author reviewed common hearth design features and their worldview role for the Palaeo-Eskimos and the Sami. The author also studied the cosmology of feeding the fire and the associated deities. In conclusion the author attempted to establish a hypothesis that the Palaeo-Eskimos shared the cosmological idea of the clan river and the rites of feeding the fire with people in the areas north of Lake Baykal in Siberia, from where they migrated to the North-eastern Arctic 4,500 years ago.
