Topic HISTORICAL MOSAIC
Summary Based on the materials from a unique source — the investigatory records of an 1801–1802 case — the article attempts at reconstruction of the everyday life of various groups of population of Ekaterinburg and the almshouse near a cemetry which was the beginning of Ekaterinburg Novotikhvin convent – the largest convent in the Urals. Sparse available materials shed some light on the first pages of the history of this nunnery; provide glimpses of biographies and character of the nuns, most dramatically manifested in an extreme situation. The reconstr-uction of the way of life of the musketeers and craftsmen performed by the article on the basis of a historical anecdote demonstrated the flexibility of social organization of the population of Ekaterinburg of the early 19th century, the characteristic features of their cultural and moral appearance, everyday life organization, and the norms of their day-to-day communication. These materials have never been published before.
