Summary	The paper focuses on the analysis of the published sources, archived and unpublished fi eld study reports on the work of the Perm eparchial committee of the Russian Orthodox missionary society for advancement of the eastern orthodoxy among the Mari in the Perm Kama region, as well as the methods, forms and results of the Orthodox mission during the second half of the 19th — early 20th centuries.
