Topic URAL IN RUSSIA'S HISTORY
Summary The author outlined methodological approaches to the study of the regional history of the Urals in a wider national context based on structuration theory and the center-periphery model. The fi rst approach involves the identifi cation of channels and levels of the region’s integration with the national institutional and political, economic, and socio-cultural environment. The second one is focused on the study of dynamics of the regional identity formation as a consequence of mature spatial integration and regional specialization. The third approach consists in defi ning the place and the role of a region in the national structures and processes.
