Summary The article deals with the main controversial problems of the Ob-Ugrian ethnography. They include both the general problems (the Khanty and the Mansi — one or two peoples, the general and the distinctive features of their culture, ethnography of their individual groups, the economic and cultural type and its temporal variability), and the specific ones (the role fishing and dog breeding in the economy of the Ob Ugrians, the origin and the function of horse line, classification of clothing and its evolution, interactions between the Nenets and the Ob Urgian cultures, the specifics of the social organization and the life cycle rituals, the specific features of the bear cult and festival, the specific features of shamanism, etc.).
