Summary | The article studies the reasons underlying the leaders' for the Siberian regionalism interest in the topic of generations; based on the analysis of various types of sources the author traced the evolution of their generational identity. Particular attention was paid to the meaning of the term “generation” in the materials of the “separatists”case investigation file, as well as the authority's attempts to file against the regionalists the charges of inciting conflict between the “young” and the “older” generation. Using the texts of the Siberian regionalism leaders G. N. Potanin and N. M. Yadrintsev as a case study the author identified the differences in the relative importance of their generational identity. While for G. N. Potanin the generational self-identification was of a peripheral importance, for N. M. Yadrintsev its role in later life became even greater. Based on P. Sztompka’s model of cultural trauma, the ideas of E. Santner, V. D. Volkon and N. Izkovich, the Yadrintsev’s texts on generations could be interpreted as a kind of “work of sorrow” (according to Z. Freud), as an attempt of survival in an alien to him environment of Alexander III conservative modernization period. The latter was perceived by the regionalist as a “troubled time” cultural trauma, a period of abandonment of ideas and ideals of 1860s. Yadrintsev considered himself a “man of the sixties”. For him the creation of a socio-cultural myth about his generation was a means of preserving the memory of his referential community, at the same time he was also aware of the didactic and psychotherapeutic potential of this work for both his peers and the “new”, younger generation. | ||
