| Summary | In the recent years the academic community, the general public, and the politicians have been actively discussing the processes of the Russian colonization of Siberia which lasted over the period of almost three hundred years. It is impossible to fully understand that period without a study of the history of the founding and growth of the cities and fortresses, or the reconstruction of their historical and cultural role in the archeologo-historical context. The excavations of the cultural level of Tobolsk have significantly strengthened our potential for understanding the role of this city, the then center of the province, in the Russian colonization of Siberia, as well as in the study of the early stages of its history. The historical interpretation of the discovered objects throws new light on many concepts relating to the Siberian regions. The scope of the archaeological materials, their study and the extrapolation of the findings onto the historical and the cartographic data form a strong foundation for the reconstruction of the city plan structure and the dynamics of the city of Tobolsk growth; as well as for the description of the production, economic and commercial occupa¬tions of its citizen; assessment of the stage of their material culture development during the Russian colonization period; and, most importantly, for the periodization of the history of the city as a whole, and of the individual most significant events. | ||
