Topic HISTORICAL MOSAIC
Summary For the first time in the regional historiography the article studies the processes of social mobility of the Ural population during the Great Patriotic War period. The author studied the specific practices of the communist party and the state control over the social space and the individual social mobility impulses. Using the specific historical documents relating to various social groups the author traced the horizontal and the vertical (rises and declines) parameters of the social mobility phenomenon. The article characterized major trends of the social dynamics in the Ural — accelerated migration of the farmers from the rural areas, the emergence of the new social groups, the rotation within the administrative groups. The study was based on the documents from the Ural’s archives; the data published in the academic literature; the ego-materials including the personal diaries of B. S. Katajev, the then Deputy Chairman of the Chelyabinsk Regional Planning Commission. The theoretical foundation of the study was based on the sociological concepts of P. A. Sorokin, E. Giddens, certain concepts of the anthropology of movement theory, a hypothesis of the mobilization nature of the Soviet society during the Great Patriotic War period.
