| Summary | On December 11–14, 2019, the 5th Northern Archaeological Congress (NAC) will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk. Its organizers are the Government of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug — Yugra, Surgut State University, Museum of Nature and Man, Institute of History and Archaeology of the Ural Branch of the RAS, Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the RAS, Institute of Archaeology of the RAS, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of the RAS, Institute of the History of Material Culture of the RAS. On the eve of the anniversary forum, the article presents the accumulated experience and the chronology of NAC (2002–2015). A brief report on each congress includes organizers, partners, scientific structure, dynamics of the number of participants from Russian and foreign centers and a change in their ratio. The sources of the study are abstracts and papers books as well as programs of four NACs. On this basis a database was compiled with a list of congress participants (section leaders, plenary and section speakers); affiliations, citizenship, city, co-authorship of reports and abstracts were also indicated. The database made it possible to conduct a comparative analysis of congresses for a number of attributes: geography (dynamics of the participation of researchers from Russian cities and foreign countries); representation of Russian and foreign organizations; scientific collaborations. | ||
