Topic ARCHAEOLOGY OF HABITAT AND LIVELIHOOD
Summary The paper is devoted to the characterization of textile culture in the Late Bronze Age Ural-Kazakhstan region. Textile culture is a combination of characteristic features of a textile product and its manufacturing technologies, due to socio-economic factors, cultural, aesthetic and value preferences of society. Technological and raw material analysis, studying of dyes of fragments of archaeological textiles and their ceramic impressions made it possible to determine the main components of textile culture in Sintashta, Petrovka and Alakul societies. All organic samples were made from animal fiber. The authors propose sheep wool as a basis for local weaving, taking into account the cattle-breeding orientation of the economy and a high percentage of sheep in the herd, with an unknown share of imported and local plant fiber. Woven fabrics, tapes and cords were made of spun threads, mainly of them had Z-spun. Fabrics are represented by various parameters of plain (tabby) weave. The braid is found with diagonal-plain and diagonal-twill weave; the cords are made by twisting from 4 and 8 threads or by braiding. The decoration was carried out using red threads, dyed madder or Galium, as well as combinations of yarns of different colors, variations of the ply and spun yarn, embroidery. Textiles were used in clothing, costume accessories and ceramic production.
