Summary | The article describes major facts from the biography of the Adjutant General Peter Petrovich Dolgorukov (junior): the circumstances which shaped his personality in his early youth, his diplomatic career, including his meeting Napoleon in 1805 right before the Battle of Austerlitz, his place and role at the court of Alexander I. Main attention is paid to Prince Dolgorukov's cold relations with the closest friends of the Emperor, members of the Private Committee, most obviously with Prince Adam Chartorizhsky. The author gives detailed reconstruction of the system of court relations created by the young Emperor during the first five years of his reign. The system was built on provoking collision of opposing views of the inner circle members, creation of 'court parties', the leaders of which during the period under study were Princes Dolgorukov and Chartorizhsky. | ||
