SMALL ARMS MANUFACTURING IN IZHEVSK IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20th CENTURY

Summary	The article defined and reviewed the key issues of the small arms manufacturing within the context of defense industry development in the Urals. The author analyzed the processes of technological modernization of arms production, and provided arguments in favor of the use of external innovations, import of equipment and materials, use of foreign knowledge and employing technical experts. The article describes the difficulties, problems and the sources of overcoming the energy crisis at various stages of its development during the first half of the 20th century. The issues related to recruitment of qualified labor for production facilities have also been reviewed. The author demonstrated the contribution of the company in the development of new small arms systems. The outcome of the work performed is the well-founded conclusion about the importance of the Urals as the army support area, and the Izhevsk Small Arms works for the strengthening of defense capacity of the USSR on the eve and during the years of the Great Patriotic War.
