Summary	The article describes the process of accumulation of historical knowledge on one of the poorly researched subjects — the artillery and ammunition industry in the Ural region during the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945). The author identifies two stages in the study of the subject, gives an overview of the specifics and the format of the exiting studies, provides an analysis of the key studies on this subject. The paper also lists issues which require further studies, for instance, the system of personnel recruitment and organization of living conditions for the personnel of the artillery works, the role and influence of the communist party and the Soviet government, communications between the communist party structures and the management and staff of the works, the specifics of production processes in the artillery and ammunition industry in the Urals in the 1940s.
