Greater part of the article is the description of interaction between the Russian and German scholars in research projects in the territories of the Ottoman and Chinese Empires. In the first case the author referred to episodes of academic and political activities of researchers in Palestine, Western Asia and the Balkans. A particular attention was paid to cooperation between the Russian Archaeological Institute in Constantinople and the German Archaeological Institute in Athens, and the work of the Russian Committee for Central and Eastern Asia Studies. The author described a number of episodes illustrating some tensions in the relationships between the Russian and German expeditions studying the Turfan and Kucha sites. The authors made certain conclusions about the nature of the relationships between the Russian and the German scholars in Turkey and China influenced by political tension between the German and the Russian Empires at the turn of the 20th century. | ||
