Summary | The article deals with the study of gold and silver jewellery of the 10th–14th centuries found during the excavations in the Volga — Ural region. It is believed that most of these decorations were made in the Volga Bulgaria. Analysis of the Bulgarian jewellery demonstrated its significant difference from the decorations found in other places. Moreover, the Bulgarian gold and silver decorations followed different development patterns. It was claimed that the Bulgarian gold jewellery was not a result of the evolutionary development of the local traditions of making silver decorations. The idea of such decorations was brought to the area from the East, however they acquired their fi nal form already on the Volga. The diversity of jewellery found in the Trans Ural region makes it possible to presume the existence of several jewellery centres: one in the Volga Bulgaria, and others on the Kama and in the Trans Ural area. | ||
